ACT math tutor
The Enhanced ACT Math section has 45 questions in 50 minutes, and 41 of them are scored. Tutors work out whether a student's lost points come from content gaps or from timing, then fix the larger problem first. Kurtis Lee scored a 36 on the ACT and also teaches Calculus BC and Physics C.

ACT reading tutor
The Reading section has 36 questions in 40 minutes, and 27 are scored, which is about a minute per question including the passage. Tutors teach students to find the evidence for each question first and eliminate answers against it, instead of reading every passage slowly. ACT English tutor
The English section has 50 questions in 35 minutes, and 40 are scored; it tests grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and rhetorical choices such as word choice and organization. Tutors drill the rules the test repeats, so students answer by rule instead of by ear. The optional Writing test is a separate 40-minute essay that does not affect the composite, and tutors cover it only when a target school asks for it. ACT science tutoring
Science is optional on the Enhanced ACT: 40 questions in 40 minutes, 34 scored, and it does not count toward the composite. Students who add it learn to read graphs, tables, and experiment descriptions without treating each passage like a textbook. Prisha Bali scored a 35 on the ACT and teaches AP Chemistry and AP Biology alongside ACT prep.
What online ACT tutoring looks like, session by session
Each session is 60 minutes, one-on-one, and online. Your tutor opens with the diagnostic results, then works on the sections and question types costing you the most points. You get homework between sessions, and parents get a weekly progress report.
Closer to test day, students take full-length timed practice tests, and the tutor reviews each one section by section. Sessions can be booked with 24 hours' notice, from 7 am to 11 pm Eastern.
North American Tutors is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, with an office in Beverly Hills, California, but tutoring happens online, not at either office. A student in Iowa, Colorado, Texas, or Delaware meets the same tutors, in the same format.

ACT tutoring cost and what determines it
Every student starts with a 60-minute diagnostic session for $50. If you move to a lesson package within 48 hours, the $50 is credited toward it. A 15-session package is $915 ($61 per session), and a 20-session package is $1,180 ($59 per session). The number of sessions depends on starting score, target, and test date.
One-on-one tutoring costs more per hour than group prep, and the extra buys a plan built around your section scores. The ACT tutoring rates page lists what each package includes.
How to choose an ACT tutor
Check the tutor's own ACT score. Ask for it if the profile does not list one. A score shows a tutor has solved the test under time pressure, not that they can teach it.
Read for teaching experience. Look for years tutoring and subjects taught. Some of our tutors list this and some do not, so ask when you book.
Ask how the plan starts. A good tutor begins with where points are being lost by section, not with a generic workbook.
Confirm the plan fits the Enhanced ACT. Sections are shorter, Science is optional, and the composite comes from English, Math, and Reading, per ACT's published test structure.
Compare cost over the whole plan. Multiply the per-session price by the sessions you expect to need.
Match the schedule. A tutor you can meet weekly at a workable time beats a stronger profile you can see once a month.

ACT tutoring compared with other ways to prepare
Private tutoring suits some students and not others. It costs more per hour than group prep and pays off most when a student has a clear target and a few months to work toward it. A student within a point or two of the goal may do just as well with the free practice tests ACT publishes.
ACT results from NAT students
One published ACT case study follows Everleigh D., who went from a 23 composite in February to a 31 superscore composite in June, working with a NAT tutor for about four months. Her plan shifted from grammar and reading fixes to math pacing after her April test showed she was running out of time. Figures are as published in the ACT case study.
