Tell us about your student
Submit the contact form with your student's current SAT score or most recent Bluebook practice test result, their target score, the school they are aiming for, and their next planned test date. If they haven't sat the Digital SAT yet, that's fine, we start with a diagnostic.
2
We select two or three tutors
A person on our team reviews the submission and selects tutors whose own SAT scores and university background are a strong fit. If your student needs to lift their Math module score, we prioritize tutors who scored 780 or above in that section and have worked on the adaptive format.
3
First session for $50
The first session is a 60-minute diagnostic: the tutor works through your student's most recent practice test, identifies the patterns that are costing points, and builds a section-level starting plan. You pay $50. If you move into a package within 48 hours, that $50 is credited.
4
Adjust if the match is wrong
If the tutor isn't the right fit, wrong teaching style, wrong pacing, any reason, let us know and we reassign. There is no penalty and no waiting period.
What to look for when you hire an SAT tutor online
Most families are comparing two or three options when they land here. These are the criteria that actually predict whether a tutoring match will produce a score change.
1. Verify the tutor's actual SAT score
A "99th percentile or above" claim tells you the floor. Ask which score and when it was taken. The Digital SAT is different from the old paper test in ways that matter for prep: adaptive second modules, the Bluebook interface, the built-in Desmos calculator. A score from 2019 is not the same as a 1580 on the current format.
2. Check whether the tutor has taken the current Digital SAT.
Many experienced tutors who scored well on the pre-2024 paper format have not sat the digital version. Prep for the adaptive second module requires familiarity you cannot fake.
3. Ask what the first session produces.
A diagnostic that results in a section-level improvement plan is worth the session fee. A diagnostic that produces a vague recommendation to "work on reading" is not.
4. Understand the bad-match policy before you pay.
Some platforms charge a rebooking fee or require you to use credits to switch tutors. Ask explicitly: if the match is wrong, what happens? The answer should cost you nothing.
5. Where NAT is not the right call.
If your student's target is a score improvement of 30 to 40 points and their timeline allows six to eight weeks of self-study, working through official College Board Bluebook practice tests is free and can get them there without paid tutoring. Private tutoring earns its cost when the gap is larger, the timeline is shorter, or the student has a specific section (Math Module 2, or Information and Ideas in Reading and Writing) that self-study has not moved.
SAT tutoring rates
A diagnostic session costs $50 for 60 minutes. If you move into a package within 48 hours, the $50 is credited to the package price. Packages run from $59 to $61 per 60-minute session depending on package size, with a 15-session plan at $915 and a 20-session plan at $1,180. There are no long-term commitments and no hidden fees.
What changes the rate: package length. One-on-one private tutoring with a 1580 scorer from Duke costs roughly one-third of what a national test-prep brand charges for their base tutor tier. The trade-off is real: group courses are less expensive still. If your student needs less than 40 points, a group course or free official Bluebook practice may be the right call.
Full package details are on our SAT tutoring pricing page.
Private tutoring is one of four realistic ways to prepare for the Digital SAT. Here is an honest comparison.
SAT score gains from North American Tutors students
Several students who worked with NAT SAT tutors have documented their results in our published case studies. These are real students, real starting scores, and real final scores.
● Guntas S.: 1410 to 1560 (770 Reading, 790 Math)
● Eli A.: 1360 to 1510 in approximately three months
● Natasha S.: 1350 to 1560
● Avery H.: 1250 to 1420
● Aiden H.: 1570 with a perfect 800 in Reading
These results are not the average. They are documented examples. Some students improve more, some less. What determines it is starting score, distance from the target, how many sessions, and whether the student completes the assigned practice between sessions.
You can read the full timelines, including which tutors were involved and how long each engagement took, in our student success stories.
